About us
The gallery was created by Cornélia Marang-Schmidmayr and Ivanna Bertrand, who originally met in Kyiv in 2014. There they discovered strikingly vibrant innovative art and exceptional people. Driven by the desire to promote Ukrainian and East European contemporary art, they co-founded ArtEast Gallery in Berlin. Ivanna Bertrand is Franco-Ukrainian, and she is the Artistic Director of ArtEast Gallery. She graduated from Shevchenko National University Kyiv in philosophy and esthetics. She lived many years abroad and developed artistic projects and events. Upon her return to Ukraine, she co-founded Photo Kyiv in 2017. Cornélia Marang-Schmidmayr is Franco-German and the Managing Director of ArtEast Gallery. She studied political science and European law, along with Chinese language and civilisation in Paris. She moved to Kyiv in 2014, where she established several Franco-Ukrainian cultural projects and learned Russian. From 2018 to 2021, she worked as the Cultural Attachée in the French Institute in Vienna. She is now based in Berlin. Serhiy Voytok is art manager. He lives in Ukraine.
After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Ivanna Bogdanova-Bertrand and Cornelia Marang-Schmidmayr created the Peace for Art foundation to respond to the urgent need to help the artists there and to act for the protection of existing and future cultural heritage.
Our Mission
ArtEast Gallery focuses on contemporary art originating from Ukraine and other neighboring countries. Deeply convinced that art brings people together, the gallery wishes to build a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe. In doing so, it opens up new territories for art lovers throughout Europe, while giving leading artists and rising stars the broad audience they deserve. The gallery is committed to continuing exploring Ukrainian and East European vivid creativity, discovering new artists but also working together with international artists who got inspired by this region. Supporting ambitious creation and accompanying unique artistic propositions is ArtEast Gallery’s cornerstone. In this regard, the gallery cooperates with many cultural institutions and develops multiple projects that promote encounters and dialogue between artists, especially artistic residencies in various countries.
